Concept from Chapter 5: Eye Behavior

I found the section about eye behavior the most interesting in chapter 5. They say the eyes are the window to the soul and that might be true. Our eyes tell people so much about us. I really enjoyed learning about the history of eyes being associated with magic. It seems so silly to think that looking into someone'e eyes could kill you. I guess that is where they got the idea for Medusa. Eyes were also thought to shoot arrows and daggers along with love's flame. Eyes were pretty impressive and busy throughout history :)
In a more realistic sense though, our eyes do say a lot about us. We all know what it is like to avoid eye contact with a teacher to avoid being called on. We tend to stare at things we view as positive and look away from things that disgust us. Something I did not know though, was that when people find something interesting their pupils enlarge. Overall, the eyes are pretty interesting. If you want to know what a person is really thinking just look into their eyes.

  1. I think that the eyes being the window to your soul is a very interesting take on how our eyes do really say so much to the people around us. I also found it very interesting to read about the history of the eyes and how people used to feel about them. It is funny how it is known to be rude in some cultures to stare at people and then at the same time it can be viewed as rude not to look someone in the eyes when they are talking to you. Our eyes are such a way into trying to connect with someone, no matter where you are or when. I really liked that you choice this to be your favorite part of the chapter, it helped me further read into it as well and I find it very interesting as well.THANKS!

  2. Like your post and it made me really think about my own eyes. I think mine are much easier to read then the average person because they are so big:). But it is so true that we avoid contact in negative situations and eye contact is viewed as a positive trait. However, why do we stare when we are watching something bad like car accidents? Anyhow, the eyes are very imformative about people. For example, I know when I lie my eyes give it away in a heartbeat. This subject also made me think about actors and how they are able to control their eye behavior. So much we could talk about:).

  3. I really liked your post about eye behavior and how the eyes are our window to the world that is so true. Our facial expressions are emphasized more through our eyes and they communicate are likes and dislikes about a conversation or person through nonverbal cues. People react to unspoken cues as much as they do to spoken words. I think we can all benefit when we learn more about these nonverbal cues, so we do not misunderstand someone. When someone does not look us in the eye, we assume they are rude, telling a lie or evading something. We sometimes fail to see the cultural impact, because in some Asian cultures it is disrespectful to look someone in the eye. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

BTW I love your pink blog layout!!!
